After a tough road loss to Maryville Friday afternoon, the UMSL Tritons men's soccer team looked to bounce back with a win at Missouri S & T.
Neither team pulled any kicks, as the two battled to to double overtime -- when a free kick was set up by the Tritons.
With 4:47 remaining in the final overtime period,
Leo Sowa delivered a beautiful arching shot to junior
Nick Schreiber -- who -- once again -- utilized his sizable frame as he delivered the header inside the left post to give the Tritons the 2-1 GLVC win.
"Nick is a big body that teams have trouble marking on free kicks around the box," said veteran UMSL head coach
Dan King.
Sowa's delivery traveled nearly 30 yards, and this gives Schreiber multiple header goals the past seven days.
Whether it be the opening half or the 105th minute, the mindset never wavers for the Tritons.
"This team plays with a passion," said King. "We have played in a few overtime games this year."
Sowa and Schreiber continue to assert themselves as players who provide consistency, and their non-stop play gives King two pitch generals in whom others gravitate.
"Arman has found his way to goal this season, and he is a quiet type that loves to bang goals," King said of his senior.
The Tritons have some time to rest and get bit healthier, as they host Lindenwood Sunday, Oct. 24.
UMSL closes out the regular season with three matches in seven days, all of which will be at Don Dallas Field.
The Tritons will host Southern Indiana Oct. 29 and McKendree to end the fall campaign Oct. 31.
