Tritons bounce back with win at Davenport

The UMSL Tritons bounced back Saturday with a commanding 61-43 win at Davenport University (Grand Rapids, Mich.).

The Tritons evened up their record at 1-1.

At Davenport, patience and court vision were crucial as the Tritons battled the Panthers' 2-3 zone.

"Davenport was a scrappy team. The girls did a great job of making in-game adjustments and finally settled in during the second half. I'm really proud of how they bounced back after a tough loss, especially with the quick turnaround. Great team effort and focus all weekend," head coach Katie Vaughn said.

UMSL doubled up the opposition in the first quarter, outscoring the Panthers, 19-9.

The second quarter was even, as both team added six points each.

It was the fourth quarter when the Tritons fired on all cylinders, putting up 24 and once again doubling up the Panthers' scoring.

Alex LaPorta led the way with her 22-point outing and Danielle Berry added eight points.

Freshman Mallory Ronshausen tallied eight, including one crucial 3-pointer.

Faye Meissner finished with seven and Jalysa Stokes had six.

Taylor Thompson had four points and McKenzie Lathrom and Shania Liburd both finished with two each.

The Tritons are off until next Saturday (Nov. 20) when they host Kentucky Wesleyan for the home opener
