Turnovers Plague Men's Basketball in GLVC Tournament Semifinal Loss

ST. LOUIS – The No. 2 seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team turned the ball over 18 times in a 79-63 loss to No. 6 seed Drury on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
 
The Panthers took advantage of the Tritons' miscues, outscoring the tournament host, 25-2, in points off turnovers.
 
UMSL falls to 13-6 on the season and will await word from the NCAA tomorrow night about its postseason plans. The Tritons were No. 4 in the region earlier this week with the top six teams earning a bid. The tournament bracket will be streamed live on ncaa.com at 9:30 p.m.
 
Drury improves to 11-9 and will play in tomorrow's championship game against the winner of the No. 5 Lewis and No. 8 Indianapolis game.
 
How It Happened
Drury took a 31-26 lead into half, taking advantage of 10 UMSL turnovers and converting those miscues to 14 points on the other end.
 
The Panthers pushed the lead to double figures at 43-32 five minutes into the second half before UMSL pulled within 45-42 two minutes later. However, Drury responded with a 16-4 run and never looked back. The Panthers shot 65.5 percent in the second half.

  • Redshirt junior Kellen King scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second collegiate double-double.
  • Redshirt freshman Lawrence Brazil III came off the bench to finish with 11 points.
  • Redshirt junior Steve Webb added 10 points and seven rebounds.
  • Senior Shane Wissink dished out six assists.
  • UMSL shot 42.9 percent and held a 36-31 rebounding advantage.
  • Junior Marty Jackson added nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
