INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team started the Great Lakes Valley Conference season with a huge road win on Sunday. UMSL upset No. 12 University of Indianapolis 2-1 with a pair of second half goals.
Brynne Qualley started in net for the Tritons (3-1, 1-0 GLVC) and was tested early by UIndy (2-1, 0-1 GLVC). Qualley made three saves in the first 10 minutes of play and turned another shot away in the 29th minute.
The Greyhounds put a goal on the board late in the first half when Uma Yadav connected with Kaylee Zimbelmann in the 39th minute.
The Tritons earned a corner kick in the first five minutes of the second half.
Mia Milazzo took the corner and found a crashing
Emma Sitton who one-touched it into the back of the net in the 49th minute to tie the game.
In the 61st minute,
Ayana Weissenfluh broke through the middle of the defense and threaded a pass through a pair of defenders to find
Jaycee Cotton to her right. Cotton fired on net and was stopped by a kick save with her first attempt, but the rebound came right back and the freshman sent it to the far post to finish off her second goal of the season.
Qualley made three more saves to preserve the win. The junior keeper finished with eight saves.
The Tritons beat the Greyhounds for the first time since 2013.
UMSL will continue their road trip to start the conference season. The Tritons travel to play the University of Illinois Springfield at Lee Field in Springfield, Ill. on Friday, September 17th at 5 p.m.
