STREAK SNAPPED: Tritons top UIndy, snap Greyhounds' win streak

The UMSL Tritons (11-3, 5-2) didn't have to wait long for a dose of redemption.

After falling at Illinois Springfield on Saturday, 68-64, the Tritons used balance, a stiff defensive attack, and timely shooting in their 63-55 win at UIndy Monday evening.

The Tritons now are 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the GLVC. The win snaps the Greyhounds' 6-game winning streak.

The Tritons forced 15 turnovers in the contest and, offensively, Marty Jackson did Marty Jackson things. Jackson led the team with 19 points, one steal and one block.

UMSL found itself in a duel, leading the host Greyhounds by one point at half, 26-25.

Indianapolis went up 33-29 early in the second half, and the back and forth continued for the final 20 minutes of action as the Tritons hit a different cylinder after senior Yaakema Rose was called for the technical in front of the Greyhounds' bench on a loose ball.

After the Greyhounds converted from the line, Steve Webb began to assert via dribble penetration -- forcing the Greyhounds to figure out whom to take out offensively.

Webb hit four straight points before finding Jackson down low for the score.

After a UIndy turnover, Webb drove for the bucket, followed by Jackson's shot from the elbow, which put the Tritons up 46-39 and they never looked back.

Trever Moore hit the long-range moonshot and the Tritons closed out the night on a high note.

UMSL is back home Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Truman State.
