Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Tyler F. Thompson

UMSL women win 10th consecutive

The UMSL women's basketball team (10-1, 6-0) set the tempo early and maintained momentum Monday as they left the University of Indianapolis with the 51-41 win.

The GLVC victory marks 10 straight for the Tritons.

UMSL owned leads for the majority of the time in all four quarters and led 23-20 at the half.

The Tritons outscored the Greyhounds 7-5 in the third. In the fourth, Kiara Stewart (double-double), Jalysa Stokes, and Danielle Berry all found the net.

But Faye Meissner and her versatility took over as she hit a 3-pointer, forced a turnover, and drove for the score all in a matter of one nearly minute.

Stewart and Berry had 10 points each. Meissner had nine. Alex LaPorta and Jalysa Stokes had six each . Shania Liburd had four and Mallory Ronshausen and Taylor Thompson had three.

During the final 10 minutes of action, Berry and Stewart hit the boards and their shots, keeping the Greyhounds at bay and searching for an answer.

Two late 3-pointers appeared to pull the 'Hounds closer, but the floater by Stokes and the timely offense by Meissner capped the win.

Berry tallied 10 points and had nine boards.

The Tritons shot 44 percent from the field, 39 percent from the perimeter, and 73 percent from the line.

Defensively, the Tritons held the opposition to just 36 percent from the field.

UMSL is home at 5:30 p.m. against Truman State, who currently trails the Tritons in the GLVC Central Division, Thursday evening.
