The UMSL women went 2-0 in Kansas City this weekend as they closed out the west side road trip Saturday with the 70-44 win at William Jewell.
Alex LaPorta pulled down her 1,029th rebound of her career, setting a new UMSL basketball school record.
LaPorta finished with 11 -- pushing the record to 1,040. The Tritons have at least 12 remaining games, dependent on make-ups and the postseason tournament.
As for her Tritons counterparts, it was equal-opportunity scoring as
Kiara Stewart (led team with 14 points),
Jalysa Stokes (12) and LaPorta (10) illuminated the box score.
It was a high-paced first quarter as the Tritons jumped out to the 18-10 lead. They led 30-17 at halftime.
And in the third, the Cardinals began to cut into the deficit, as they trailed UMSL by nine, 40-31.
A strong, fluid fourth sent the Tritons to their 13th win in 15 games. The Tritons opened up the period with a 51-33 lead, and then authored a nine-to-six scoring run with 3:55 remaining.
The Tritons host Maryville at 6 p.m. Monday in a make-up game.
