Tritons Rally For Four Set Win over Davenport in Crossover Finale

HAMMOND, Ind. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team rallied for a four-set win over Davenport on Saturday afternoon in the finale of the Midwest Region Crossover at the Hammond Sportsplex in Hammond, Ind. The Tritons improve to 16-5 while the Panthers drop to 18-5.

UMSL trailed by as many as five in the first stanza before coming back to take a 24-23 lead on after an error by Haley Krieger. The Tritons had a chance to serve out the set but Charlotte Richards serve went wide and then Davenport scored back-to-back points to win the opener 26-24.

UMSL built a five-point lead in the second frame but the Panthers rallied to close within 22-20 after a kill from Krieger. The Tritons closed out the set scoring three of the last four points to win 25-21 and even the match at a set apiece.

UMSL led by as many as eight points in the swing set but Davenport wouldn't go away as it went on an 8-1 run to close within 24-23 after a kill from Krieger. The Tritons took the set on the next swing as Richards knocked down a kill to give UMSL the 25-23 victory.

The fourth set went back-and-forth as the two teams traded points. The Tritons trailed 16-15 before going on a 5-1 run to build a 20-17 lead after a kill from Richards. The Panthers scored three of the next four points to make it a one-point contest but UMSL was able to score four of the final five points to close out the 25-21 victory.

The Tritons hit .215 for the contest with 59 kills against 21 errors in 177 chances. Rang had a double-double in the contest with 20 kills and 10 digs. Richards finished with 19 kills and 12 digs. Caitlin Bishop had a career-high 54 assists while Kylie Adams added 22 digs. Mya Elliott finished with three blocks and Rylee Edson added three aces.

Davenport hit .156 for the match with 51 kills against 25 errors in 167 chances. Krieger led all players with a match-high 21 kills while Lindsay Taylor added 11. Lexie Beeke had 27 assists, Emmy Webb added six blocks and Stephani Kalinowski had 20 digs.

UMSL is back at home next Saturday afternoon hosting Maryville at 3 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
