ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team clinched a playoff berth with its 2-2 tie against No. 13 McKendree at Don Dallas Field on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons are now 5-6-4, 3-4-5 GLVC while the Bearcats are 12-0-5, 8-0-4 GLVC.
McKendree jumped on top in the 11th minute. Elizabeth Goldstein served a corner kick to the top of the penalty area and Morgan Bova was there to head it in for her first goal of the season.
UMSL got the equalizer with 6:54 remaining in the first half as
Candice Parziani served a ball into the box and
Jaycee Cotton was able to get on the other end of it for her first goal of the season.
The Tritons took the lead in the 64th minute.
Cassie Hall won a ball near midfield and found
Ayana Weissenfluh downfield. Weissenfluh played it to her right to Karley Kenzinger who scored from about 15 yards out for her first collegiate goal.
The Bearcats scored the equalizer with 10:50 remaining. Morgan Cervera played a ball to Anna Stiffler in the box and Stiffler was able to score in a crowd for her 12th goal of the season.
UMSL finished the contest with a 9-8 edge in shots but each team had three shots on goal. McKendree had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tritons will be the number eight seed in the GLVC Tournament and will take on top seeded Rockhurst at noon next Sunday afternoon at Bourke Field in Kansas City. The Hawks beat UMSL 2-1 on Sept. 30 at Bourke Field.
