ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball extend its overall winning streak to five straight matches and its home court winning streak to six with a sweep of Drury on Friday evening at Mark Twain Building. The Tritons improve to 13-4, 6-1 GLVC while Panthers drop to 7-13, 2-4 GLVC.
UMSL raced out to a 6-1 lead and never let Drury get closer than five points the rest of the stanza. The lead ballooned to 22-9 after
Charlotte Richards and
Hannah Copeland teamed up to block Gabby Birmingham. The Panthers made a late push with an 8-2 run to get within 24-17 after a kill by Kaitlin Fasbender before
Hailey Flowers sealed the set win with a kill.
The Tritons hit .342 in the frame while holding Drury to a .095 attack percentage. Copeland led UMSL with six kills in the set while Richards added five.
The middle set was back-and-forth early before UMSL went on a 9-3 run to build a seven-point cushion. The Panthers scored three straight points to get within 17-13. The Tritons responded scoring another five in a row to build a 22-13 lead. Once again, Drury rallied late getting to within 24-17 but wouldn't get any closer as UMSL won the stanza 25-17.
The Tritons led 5-4 in the frame before going on a set deciding 18-3 run to build its largest lead of the contest at 23-7 on an ace from
Katie Linnig. The Panthers got a point back but it wouldn't be enough as Copeland and
Delaney Humm recorded back-to-back kills to give UMSL the 25-8 win.
The Tritons hit .386 for the contest with 40 kills against only six errors in 88 chances. Richards led the way with a match-high 13 kills while Copeland added nine and Flowers finished with eight.
Caitlin Bishop had 30 assists and
Kylie Adams finished with 11 digs.
Drury was held to .021 attack percentage with 24 kills against 22 errors in 96 swings. Chloe Rear led the Panthers with nine kills and 10 assists. Lexi Basler finished with 10 digs.
UMSL is back at home on Saturday as it hosts Missouri S&T at 3 p.m.
