Seventh Ranked Men’s Basketball Cruises Past Rollins for 11th Straight Win

Tritons hit 18 three-pointers in the contest, Bowen Sandquist scored 27 points.

LAS VEGAS – The seventh ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team hit 18 three-pointers in its 91-66 win over Rollins on Monday afternoon at the D2 Holiday Hoops Classic at South Point Arena in Las Vegas. The Tritons improve to 11-0 while the Tars drop to 4-6.

UMSL fell behind 6-0 to start the game as Rollins hit its first three shots but quickly erased the deficit with a 21-2 run over the next 9:19. Bowen Sandquist had 11 points in that run including three three-pointers while Mayson Quartlebaum and Victor Nwagbaraocha added three points apiece. Isaiah Fuller and Donovan Vickers had two points each.

The Tars closed the gap to nine at 23-14 after a three-point play from Jaden Frazier but that would be the closest they got the rest of the half. The Tritons went on a 14-7 run over the next six minutes to build its largest lead of the half at 37-21 on a jumper from Sandquist.

Rollins scored five of the final seven points of the half to cut UMSL's lead to 13 at the break.

The Tritons began the second half on a 6-2 run to extend their lead to 17 after three's from Quartlebaum and Sandquist.

The Tars scored the next six points to get within 11 before UMSL went on a 13-3 run to extend its lead 21 points.

UMSL led by as many as 28 points in the contest.

The Tritons shot 51 percent (33-for-65) from the field, were 18-of-37 from three and shot 70 percent at the foul line. The 18 three's were two shy of the school record set against Robert Morris-Springfield on Dec. 8, 2015.

UMSL had 10 different players score in the contest led by Sandquist with a game-high 27 points. He was 7-of-10 from three and 9-of-13 overall. His seven three's were two shy of the single game record set by Jim Schelich against Northwood on Dec. 21, 1999. Quartlebaum added 16 points, Fuller finished with 12 points and Trever Moore added 10 points off the bench.

The Tritons turned 21 forced turnovers into 24 points including 18 fast break points.

Rollins was held to 43 percent (23-for-53) shooting in the contest including 6-of-20 from three but did shoot 82 percent at the foul line. Hutton Yenor led the Tars with 16 points while Matheus Silveira added 13 points.

UMSL will be off for the Christmas break and returns to action on Dec. 31 hosting Parkside at 2 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
