NORMAL, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team played NCAA Division I Illinois State to a one-point game in the second half, but lost a 66-51 decision to the Redbirds in an exhibition game for UMSL on Tuesday morning at Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill.
Jalysa Stokes scored 13 points and added six rebounds in the contest while
Kiara Stewart added 10 points and five boards and
Shania Liburd finished with nine points off the bench.
The Tritons were held to 38 percent (21-of-56) shooting in the contest including 6-for-21 from three but shot only 33 percent at the foul line. The Redbirds also shot 38 percent (24-of-64) in the contest but made two more three's and outscored UMSL by seven at the foul line.
The Tritons used a 5-0 run early in the contest to take a 7-5 lead on a three-pointer from Stokes. That would be their only lead as ISU outscored UMSL 18-8 over the remainder of the quarter to take a 23-15 lead into the second period.
The Tritons are back at home this Saturday hosting Lewis at 1 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
