O'FALLON, ILL. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team topped McKendree University at St. Clair Tennis Center on Friday 6-1. UMSL lost the doubles point, but rebounded with the singles sweep in the opening match of the Spring.
Maja Lietzau and
Clara Lopez Bueno secured the lone win in doubles for the Tritons (1-0) in dominating fashion with a 6-0 win.
McKendree (2-2) claimed the top doubles match 6-3 against
Odette Beagrie and
Leticia Lunge. The Bearcats secured the doubles point with a No. 2 doubles win, 6-4, over
Anna Domingo and
Tara Erler.
The Tritons regrouped in singles play as
Odette Beagrie made quick work of the top singles match, 6-4, 6-0.
Leticia Lunge won in two sets with a pair of 6-3 victories to claim singles No. 3.
Anna Domingo took the first set of No. 2 singles 6-0. In set two, Viola Cipriani bounced back with a 7-5 win in set two. Domingo took the third set 6-4.
Maja Lietzau picked up a hard fought win in the No. 4 singles with a 6-3 win and set one followed by a 7-5 win in set two.
Tara Erler won set one in No. 5 singles 6-3 and earned a 7-5 win in set two.
Clara Lopez Bueno locked up the singles sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 win in No. 6 singles.
The Tritons will face Saint Louis University in St. Clair, Mo. in a doubleheader with the first match at 11:30 a.m. followed by the second match at 2:30 p.m.
