ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team won big on Senior Day over McKendree University, 84-54. UMSL was on fire from the field, shooting 53%, and knocking down 48% from beyond the arc. The Tritons were efficient with their possessions recording a 17/5 assist-to-turnover ratio. With the win, the Tritons officially won the Great Lakes Valley Conference Central Division.
UMSL (21-4, 17-3 GLVC) jumped out to an early lead by going on an 11-2 run in the first five minutes of play. The Tritons closed out the first quarter with a 26-8 lead while shooting 63% from the field.
McKendree (3-22, 2-16 GLVC) shot 29% from the field in the first quarter. The Bearcats flipped the script in the second quarter, shooting 75% from the field and outscoring the Tritons 22-20 in the period. UMSL held a 46-30 lead entering the half.
The Triton offense shot 69% in the third quarter including a 10-point run to end the period.
Alex LaPorta hit a three-pointer to start the run with three minutes to go.
Kiara Stewart followed with a jumper in the paint.
Jalysa Stokes finished the quarter with a triple followed by a two-point jumper to give UMSL a 72-45 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Tritons would go on to win the game 84-54. The seniors were stellar in the last game of the regular season.
Alex LaPorta scored 13 points, recorded four assists, and grabbed three rebounds.
McKenzie Lathrom scored nine points.
Danielle Berry led the team with 12 rebounds, five assists and pitched in seven points.
Faye Meissner scored seven points.
Adriana Plavsic scored six points and grabbed four rebounds.
Mallory Ronshausen paced the Tritons in scoring with 18 points.
Kiara Stewart scored 14 points.
Jalysa Stokes finished with 10 points.
The Tritons await the release of the GLVCÂ Women's Basketball Tournament bracket this evening to find out who they will be playing on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the first round.Â
