ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis earned two major awards and five Tritons were named to All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Teams on Wednesday. UMSL head coach
Katie Vaughn was named the GLVC Chuck Mallender Coach of the Year.
Mallory Ronshausen was selected as the GLVC Freshman of the Year.
Alex LaPorta and
Kiara Stewart were named unanimous First Team All-GLVC selections.
Faye Meissner earned Second Team All-GLVC honors. Ronshausen and
Jalysa Stokes were both named to the GLVC All-Freshman Team. Julia Ruzevich from Lindenwood was named the GLVC Player of the Year. Lauren Ladowski from Illinois Springfield was selected as the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year.
Katie Vaughn earned her 150th win this season and now sits at 160 wins entering Friday's game. Vaughn is the all-time winningest coach in UMSL history and has led the Tritons to tie the record for most wins in a season with 22. Vaughn is the first UMSL women's basketball coach to be named GLVC Coach of the Year.
Mallory Ronshausen was named GLVC Freshman of the Year by averaging 30 minutes a game this season. Ronshausen leads the team with 51 three-pointers and averaging 9.3 points per game. Ronshausen was also named to the GLVC All-Freshman Team.
Jalysa Stokes was also named to the GLVC All-Freshman Team. Stokesis averaging 25 minutes off the bench and scoring 8.1 points per game. The freshman is shooting 47% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc.
Alex LaPorta was a unanimous All-GLVC First Team selection. LaPorta earned first team honors last season and was a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American. LaPorta averages 11.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4 assists per game. The senior is the all-time leading rebounder in program history with 1112. LaPorta has scored 1,547 points in her career, ranking third in UMSL history.
Kiara Stewart was also a unanimous pick for All-GLVC First Team. Stewart was an All-GLVC Second Team selection last season. The junior is averaging 13.7 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. Stewart is shooting 62% from the field this season.
Faye Meissner was named All-GLVC Second Team. Meissner is averaging a career-high 10.4 points per game. Meissner is shooting 42.5% from the field and has started all 26 games for the Tritons. Defensively, the senior has 26 steals.
The Tritons will be honored before their game on Friday at the GLVC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup in Edwardsville, Ill. against Illinois Springfield at 2:30 p.m.
