SPRINGFIELD, ILL. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team fell to the University of Illinois Springfield in a midweek nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday. UIS won game one 8-4 and defeated UMSL 12-4 in game two.
Game One
Illinois Springfield (20-6) plated four runs in the first two innings to take an early 4-0 lead.
The Tritons (2-16) answered in the fourth inning with two outs.
Mitchell Spindler hit a triple and later scored on a single from
Carson Holin. Holin stole second base and
Brandon Pasley took a walk.
Chase Coppenhaver doubled to score Holin.
Bryce Kulinski singled to score Pasley and Coppenhaver to tie the game at 4-4.
The Prairie Stars scored three runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning off three hits and an error. UIS added an insurance run in the sixth inning en route to an 8-4 win in the seven-inning game.
Ryan Hubley was credited with the loss allowing seven runs in four innings.
Matt Blaney was credited with the win for the Prairie Stars in a relief appearance.
Game Two
The Prairie Stars got off to a quick start in game two scoring two runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead.
The fourth inning again proved to be a big inning for the Tritons.
Ben Beier was hit by a pitch as the second hitter of the inning. With two outs,
Carson Holin walked and
Ryan Hubley was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a pitching change,
Jared Bryant singled to plate Beier and Holin. Hubley scored on a wild pitch and then
Brandon Olion doubled to score Bryant.
The Prairie Stars answered with five runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. UIS went on to win 12-4 in the second game.
Wolfe Weeks was credited with the loss for UMSL allowing six earned runs in three innings.
Eddie Wilkins was credited with the win for the Prairie Stars.
