EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - No. 4 University of Missouri-St. Louis shot 58% from the field en route to a 90-68 win over No. 5 University of Southern Indiana in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals. UMSL moved the ball well offensively recording 21 assists on 30 field goals. The Tritons had 14 steals and converted 22 points off of turnovers.
The Tritons (22-6) and USI (18-8) played just eight days ago. In their first matchup, the Tritons took their foot off the gas in the second half. UMSL left no chance for a Screaming Eagle comeback on Friday.
UMSL never trailed in the game. With the game tied at 19-19 and 10 minutes left in the first half,
Shane Wissink hit a three to give the Tritons the lead for good.
Wissink went off, tying a career-high 28 points while draining seven triples. The seven three-point field goals were also a career high for the senior sharpshooter. The Oshkosh, Wis. native is now one three-pointer shy of tying the UMSL record for three-point field goals in a career.
The Tritons had five scorers in double-digits. Wissink's 28 led all scorers.
Yaakema Rose Jr. scored 17 points and led the team with seven rebounds.
Marty Jackson finished with 12 points.
Steve Webb and
Marquis Collins both scored 10 points.
With the 90-68 win, the Tritons advance to the GLVC Tournament Semifinals against No. 8 William Jewell College. The game will be played at 6 p.m. on Saturday at First Community Arena in Edwardsville, Ill.
