GLVC CHAMPIONS!

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball won the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament for the first time in program history. UMSL defeated the University of Indianapolis 66-56 to earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament.

The Tritons (24-6) fell behind 18-0 to start the game, missing their first 10 shots before Isaiah Fuller sunk two free throws with 13:27 to go in the half to put UMSL on the board. Those free throws sparked a 26-3 run for the Tritons.

Shane Wissink drained a three-pointer with 4:25 to play in the first half to put the Tritons up 23-21. The three was the 186th of Wissink's career, breaking the program record. Wissink would go on to hit three more triples in a row giving UMSL a 32-23 lead.

Marty Jackson hit a jumper entering halftime to put the Tritons up 36-28 over UIndy (19-11).

The Greyhounds pulled within one possession six times in the second half, but the Tritons answered the call at every turn.

The UMSL lead was cut to 56-54 after a three by Dee Montgomery with 4:08 to play. Marquis Collins hit a jumper in the paint to push the lead back to four on the next possession. The Triton defense forced a miss jumper by Cory Miller Jr. and then Shane Wissink answered on the other end with another three to give UMSL the 61-54 lead with 2:40 remaining.

The UMSL defense held firm allowing just two points the rest of the way. UMSL hit five of seven free throws in crunch time to finish the 66-56 GLVC Championship win.

Marty Jackson and Steve Webb had eight points each in the second half. The Tritons were led by Shane Wissink with 19 points including five three-pointers. Isaiah Fuller scored 15 points off the bench. Jackson and Webb both finished with 12 points. Webb had six assists and Jackson had eight rebounds.

Shane Wissink was named the GLVC Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player. Steve Webb and Marty Jackson were also named to the All-GLVC Championship Tournament Team.

The Tritons will be in the NCAA Midwest Regional for the second time in three seasons. UMSL will find out who they will play tonight (Sunday, Mar. 6) during the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament Selection Show on NCAA.com. The Selection Show will air at 9:30 p.m. CT.
