ST. LOUIS, MO. - The West Division No. 3 University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team fell to East Division No. 2 Lewis University 4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Friday. The start of the match was delayed over six hours due to wet conditions, but was eventually able to be played outdoors at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
Lewis claimed No. 3 doubles 6-2 to start the match.
Odette Beagrie and
Leticia Lunge stepped up in No. 1 doubles and won their match 6-4.
Anna Domingo and
Tara Erler clinched the doubles point for the Tritons 6-4 in No. 2 doubles.
The Flyers took No. 2 singles when Nefeli Zafeiri defeated
Anna Domingo 6-1, 7-5. Casey Smith topped
Maja Lietzau 6-3, 6-4 in No. 3 singles. Sage Hills won by retirement 6-2, 5-1 against
Clara Lopez Bueno.
Jovana Vujanic won the first set of No. 4 singles 6-4.
Leticia Lunge claimed the second set 6-2, but Vujanic flipped the score in set three to win the fourth and final point for the Flyers.
Odette Beagrie and
Tara Erler did not finish their matches before the Flyers claimed their fourth point.
The Tritons ended their season with a 9-8 record and a 4-2 record in the GLVC.
