Lebanon, Ill. – After dropping the opening game of the day, the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team scored 11 runs in the second inning in the nightcap to aid the Tritons in a doubleheader split against McKendree Saturday afternoon at Hypes Field in Lebanon, Ill. The Bearcats took the first game of the day by a score of 10-2 while the Tritons scattered 16 hits in the second game of the doubleheader to earn a 16-1 victory.
Game One – The Bearcats cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning as they scored a pair of runs on two hits including a solo homer to grab a 2-0 lead over the Tritons.
UMSL drew even with McKendree in the top of the third as
Jared Bryant opened the frame with a double while
Carson Holin drew a walk to put runners at first and second. After a pair of flyouts,
Matt DiMemmo drove home Bryant with a single to right field while
Clayton Stephens tied the game with an RBI single to center field to score Holin to even the contest at 2-2.
McKendree reclaimed the lead in the home half of the fourth after an RBI double to grab a 3-2 advantage over the Tritons. The Bearcats extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI infield single and a two-run triple into the left-center field gap to push the score to 6-2. McKendree added another run in the frame on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 7-2.
The Bearcats tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-2 lead and secure the opening game victory over the Tritons.

Game Two – The Tritons struck first in the top of the second inning as
Bryce Kulinski opened the frame with a double moved to third after both Bryant and
Brandon Pasley drew walks to load the bases. Kulinski and Bryant both scored as the Bearcats starting pitcher threw two more free passes to give UMSL a 2-0 lead with no outs in the inning. After another bases-loaded walk made the score 3-0, Stephens ripped a two-run single to right field to extend the lead to 5-0. The offense kept clicking for the Tritons as Kulinski hit an RBI single and Bryant cleared the bases with a double down the right-field line to give UMSL a 9-0 lead while
Brandon Olion added another run with an RBI single up the middle to push the advantage to 10-0. The Tritons finished the scoring in the inning as DiMemmo drew another bases-loaded walk to make the score 11-0. UMSL sent 17 batters to the plate in the inning with seven hits while drawing seven walks.
The Tritons added to the advantage in the top of the fourth as Pasley opened the frame with a walk and moved to second on an infield single by Olion. Both came home on a
Kameron Laskowski single to centerfield to push the score to 13-0.
Olion kept the UMSL offense going in the top of the fifth as he ripped a bases-loaded single down the left-field line to plate Kulinski for the third time in the game as the Tritons extended their lead to 14-0. Stephens added to the UMSL lead in the top of the sixth with a two-run blast to give the Tritons a 16-0 lead. The Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning to cut the UMSL advantage to 16-1.
Adam Rose earned his first win of the year going the distance and allowing six hits on the day with three strikeouts.
