St. Louis – The University of Missouri – St. Louis could not overcome a pair of big innings in the early portion of the contest by Maryville as the Saints defeated the Tritons 13-3 in seven innings to earn a series sweep Sunday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field on Senior Day. The Tritons honored
Matt DiMemmo,
Christian Thrasher, and
Clayton Stephens before the game as the three played their final game in a UMSL uniform.
How it Happened – The Saints opened the scoring in the top of the first with four runs on a pair of hits to take an early 4-0 lead. After the Saints plated another run in the second, the Tritons cut into the Maryville lead in the third as
Brandon Olion opened the frame with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Olion would score on a
Kameron Laskowski RBI single to make the score 5-1.
The Saints added to their lead in the top of the fourth with four runs on a grand slam home run over the left-field wall to give Maryville a 9-1 lead. The Saints plated two more runs in the top half of the fifth to put Maryville on top 11-1.
Maryville plated a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 13-1, but the Tritons answered in the home half of the inning as Laskowski hit a two-out single and scored as Stephens ripped a double to left field to make the score 13-2. Stephens then came around to score as
Logan Mantz hit a single to cut the Maryville lead to 13-3.
