MIDLAND, Mich. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team opened its 2022 slate with a 2-2 draw against Northwood on Thursday at Dean Field in Midland, Mich.
The Tritons had a 19-13 advantage in shots including 8-5 in shots on goal.
Leo Sowa led UMSL with seven shots in the contest while
Arman Kovac and Drew Schenck had three shots apiece.
The Timberwolves got on the board first with an unassisted goal from Lucas Hart in the 14th minute.
The Tritons had three chances later in the half but were unable to get any of them past Robert Gjelaj.
UMSL got the equalizer 7:09 into the second half as Sowa scored on a rebound after his first shot was blocked. The Tritons took the lead in the 73rd minute when Kovac converted a penalty kick.
UMSL had a couple of chances to add to its lead in the next 12 minutes but missed both shots wide.
Northwood scored the equalizer with 2:19 remaining when Hart scored his second of the contest with an assist from Neil Langan.
The Tritons threatened in the final minute getting into the Timberwolves penalty area but were unable to get a shot away.
UMSL will host Upper Iowa in its home opener this Sunday (Aug. 28) at 1 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
