ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team got back in the win column with a 3-0 win over Drury on Friday evening at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons improve to 3-9-2, 2-9-1 GLVC while the Panthers drop to 4-7-5, 4-5-3 GLVC.
The win snapped UMSL's nine-game losing streak and 10-game winless streak.
Senior
Gabe Stanislawski scored the first of his three goals in the fourth minute. Senior
Owen Sears took a shot near the top of the penalty area that was blocked and the rebound fell to Stanislawski who buried his shot into the lower right corner for his first goal of the season.
His second goal came less than a minute later as he stole a pass and ripped a shot past Tyler Frolik.
Drury had a chance to get on the board in the 41st minute but J.J. Adikwu's shot off a corner kick as saved off the line by fifth-year senior
Nick Schreiber.
The Panthers outshot the Tritons 7-6 in the first half but UMSL put three of its shots on goal to one for Drury.
The Panthers had a chance to cut into UMSL's lead early in the second half but junior
Chris Harris was able to make a save on Jason Puente's attempt and knock it out for a corner kick.
Stanislawski got his hat trick in the 72nd minute ripping a shot off the hand of Frolik inside the right post for his third of the season.
The Tritons were outshot in the contest 14-9 but had five shots on goal compared to two for Drury. The Panthers had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
UMSL hosts Southwest Baptist in its season finale on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field at noon. The Tritons will honor their six seniors after the game.
