SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Second Ranked Drury used runs in each half to take control of Saturday's Great Lakes Valley Conference contest with Missouri-St. Louis, as the Panthers handed the Tritons an 86-63 loss at the O'Reilly Family Events Center.
Drury, (23-1, 16-0 GLVC), who won for the 19
th straight time, opened the game on a 17-8 run but UMSL (9-14, 7-10 GLVC) closed the quarter on an 8-4 run to cut the Panther lead to five heading into the second stanza. The Tritons shot 47 percent in the frame while Drury connected on 60 percent of its shots.
The Panthers began the second quarter on a 15-6 run to build its largest lead of the half at 36-22 after a jumper from Terrion Moore with 3:50 left in the frame. UMSL cut the deficit to 10 points after back-to-back buckets from
Kiara Stewart and
Morgan Ramthun but Drury scored the final four points of the half to take a 14-point lead at halftime.
The Panthers outscored the Tritons 29-14 in the third quarter and extended its lead to 32 points after a layup from Reese Schaaf with less than a minute to play in the frame. Drury shot 63 percent in the period while holding UMSL to 35 percent shooting.
UMSL outscored the Panthers 23-17 in the final stanza while shooting 59 percent from the field including 3-of-5 from three in the quarter.
Jalysa Stokes led all scorers with 27 points in the contest while Stewart added 13 points and eight rebounds and Ramthun finished with 10 points and six boards.
Moore led three Drury players in double figures in scoring with 24 points. Alana Findley had 21 points and Kaylee DaMitz-Holt finished with 10 points.
The Tritons conclude their three-game road trip next Thursday against crosstown rival Maryville at 5:15 p.m. at Moloney Arena.
