ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped the opener of a four-game series at Rogers State 10-2 on Friday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex in Claremore, Okla. The Tritons are 2-3 while the Hillcats improve to 6-1.
UMSL jumped on top early with a pair of runs in the first inning.
Leighton Keller drove in
Braedon Stoakes and
Mitchell Green with a double.
RSU took the lead scoring five runs on five hits in the home half of the third. Prescott Horn tied the game with a one out single to left driving in Carson Cheatwood and Ramon Torres. Two batters later Joel Escalante drove in AJ Folds and Horn with the go-ahead runs on a double to center. Geovanni Blackshaw drove in Escalante with the final run of the inning with a single back up the middle.
The Hillcats tacked on three more in the fifth then added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the final margin.
The Tritons had six hits in the contest with Keller, Stoakes,
Kameron Laskowski,
Brandon Olion,
Carson Holin and
Justin Simard picking up one each.
Cody Brooks took the loss allowing eight runs, seven earned on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts in 4.1 innings to fall to 0-1.
UMSL and Rogers State resume their series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
