ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team dropped its season finale against Lewis 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
The Tritons finished tied with Lewis and Illinois Springfield for the final spot in the GLVC's East Division for a spot in next weekend's GLVC Tournament but lost on a tiebreaker as Illinois Springfield had a better winning percentage in sets played between the three teams.
The Flyers (11-8, 1-4 GLVC) won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point of the contest.
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey lost to Boris Reckow and Omer Gorgun 7-5 while
Juan Vigil and
Tanin Ramnath fell to Tatenda Mutetwa and Oliwer Wierzbicki 6-3.
In singles play, Mayorga fell to Reckow 6-0, 6-3, Vigil won the first set of his match against Gorgun 6-4 but lost set two 7-6 (7-6) in a tiebreak and lost the third set 6-1. Mackey was defeated by Mutetwa 6-3, 6-3, Ramnath lost to Wierzbicki in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 and Burrows fell to Grant Miller 5-7, 6-3, 6-10. UMSL's win came from
Pascal Maclean-Wood as he won by default at number six singles.
UMSL finishes its season with a record of 4-12, 1-4 GLVC.
