ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team overcame a 6-0 deficit to defeat Southwest Baptist 13-6 and complete a sweep of the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field. The Tritons improve to 20-18, 13-7 GLVC while the Bearcats drop to 7-31, 3-17 GLVC.

SBU led 6-0 after two and a half innings as it scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and three more in the third. The Bearcats got RBI singles from Zeke Skinner and Sal Jacobo in the first. Colby Sneed drove in the run in the second as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

SBU took advantage of two UMSL errors scoring three unearned runs in the third. Joe Brown and Dean Hagenhoff each had RBI singles in the frame and Brown scored on a throwing error by Kameron Laskowski on a stolen base attempt of third.

The Tritons scored a pair of runs in their half of the third without the benefit of a hit. The first three hitters reached base via walk. Laskowski drove in the first run as he was walked with the bases loaded. Justin Simard drove in the second run with a fielder's choice ground out to short.

UMSL sent 10 batters to bat in the fifth scoring five runs on six hits. The Tritons had the bases loaded and no one out in the frame. Simard drove in the first two runs with a double down the left field line scoring Logan Mantz and Laskowski. Mitchell Green drove in Andrew Buescher with a sacrifice fly to center and Simard scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Bryce Kulinski drove in Carson Holin with a single up the middle to give UMSL a 7-6 lead.

The Tritons sent 10 more men to the plate in the sixth scoring five runs on five hits to extend the lead. Simard drove in his fourth run of the game with a hard-hit back to the pitcher to make it 8-6. Green hit a three-run homer to left center to make it 11-6. Mantz drove in the final run of the inning with a single to center scoring Braedon Stoakes.

UMSL scored its final run in the seventh as Laskowski led off the inning with a triple down the right field line and scored on Green's two-out single to left.

The Tritons finished with 14 hits in the contest with 10 recording at least one hit. Laskowski, Simard, Green and Leighton Keller had two hits apiece. Green drove in five runs while Simard had four RBIs. Trent Anderson pitched three innings of scoreless relief to improve to 3-0 on the season. He struck out six while allowing two hits and two walks.

UMSL continues its nine-game homestand this Friday (April 21) hosting No. 14 Quincy at 2 p.m. at the UMSL Baseball Field.
