ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team picked up its first win in 2023 doubling up Central Methodist 4-2 on Thursday evening at Davis Field in Fayette, Mo. It's the first career win for head coach
Josh Alderson.
The victory also snapped Central Methodist's long home winning streak. The last time the Eagles lost at Davis Field was exactly four years ago to the day in a loss to Bellevue.
The Tritons (1-0-1) scored twice in the first five minutes with
Devin Livingstone scoring both in a span of 0:19 seconds in the fifth minute.
The Eagles (2-2), ranked 12th in the NAIA, got one of those back in the 12th minute as Leonardo Chiulli scored with an assist from Koen Schimmel.
UMSL took the 2-1 lead into the intermission after outshooting Central Methodist 6-5 in the first 45 minutes.
The Eagles tied the game early in the second half as Adrian Stokke got the equalizer 1:35 into the frame.
It wouldn't be tied for long though as
Melo Mensah put the Tritons back in front with an unassisted goal for his first of the season in the 54th minute.
UMSL regained its two-goal lead as
Ty Gordon scored an insurance goal in the 78th minute for his first of the season.
Central Methodist outshot the Tritons 17-7 in the second half but was only able to put two of those shots on frame while UMSL put three of its seven shots on target.
The Eagles finished the game with a 22-13 advantage in shots but each side put six shots on goal. Central Methodist took eight corner kicks in the contest compared to two for UMSL.
The Tritons continue their season opening five-game road trip next Friday as they head to Liberty, Mo., next Friday to take on William Jewell at 7:30 p.m.
