Tritons Roll Past Miners

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team rolled past Missouri S&T for a 72-47 win to return to the win column on Thursday evening at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons improve to 8-10, 6-6 GLVC while the Miners fall to 5-15, 2-10 GLVC.

S&T scored the first points of the game but that would be its only lead as UMSL seized control with a 12-2 run led by Jalysa Stokes, Alex Wolff and Mara Rieder with four points apiece. The Miners pulled to within six but the Tritons closed the quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 12-point lead into the second quarter.

UMSL stretched its lead to 13 early in the second frame after a basket from Stokes but S&T countered with a 13-4 run over the next 5:11 to pull within four on a jumper from Morgan Luebbering. The Tritons answered that run scoring the next six points to extend its lead back to double digits but the Miners scored the final five points of the frame to cut UMSL's lead to 32-27 at the break.

The Tritons dominated the third quarter outscoring S&T 21-4 in the stanza and held them without a field goal in the frame which allowed UMSL to take a 53-31 lead into the final 10 minutes. Rieder, Stokes and Emerson Weller combined for 17 of the Tritons points in the stanza.

The Miners cut the lead to 19 midway through the final frame but UMSL wouldn't allow them to get any closer finishing the game on a 14-8 run for the final margin.
