CAGUAS, Puerto Rico - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team cruised to a 58-28 victory over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Sunday afternoon at Roger Mendoza Coliseum in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The win improved the Tritons record to 8-2 while the Tarzans fall to 0-7 on their season.

UMSL got off to a fast start opening the game on a 12-2 run and never trailed in the contest.
Alex Wolff had six of those points while
Kate Rolfes and
Abby Peterson added three points apiece. The Triton lead grew to 13 after two free throws from
Mara Rieder with 1:12 left in the opening frame but a layup on the other end cut the lead to 11 at the quarter break.

UMSL dominated the second stanza outscoring UPR-Mayaguez 14-3 to take its largest lead of the half at 31-9 on a layup from
Brooke Woodyard. Five different Tritons scored in the frame led by Wolff and Woodyard with four points each while Peterson,
Audrey Martinez-Stewart and
Anna Costa Riera had two points apiece.

The Tritons shot 41 percent (11-for-27) from the floor in the first 20 minutes including 2-of-7 from three and were 7-of-12 from the foul line.

The Tarzans outscored UMSL 8-3 over the first three-plus minutes of the third quarter to pull within 15 after a jumper in the paint by Valeria Gonzalez. The rest of the quarter belonged to the Tritons outscoring UPR-Mayaguez 10-4 to take a 21-point lead into the final frame.

The Tarzans got back-to-back baskets to begin the fourth quarter but wouldn't get any closer than 17 points as UMSL's defense held them without a field goal and outscored them 14-1 over the remainder of the contest.

The Tritons shot 42 percent (19-for-45) from the floor in the contest including 5-of-13 from three but shot 58 percent (15-for-26) at the charity stripe. They outrebounded them 44-to-16 and outscored them 25-to-13 in bench points.

10 different players scored for UMSL in the contest led by Wolff with 10 points while Rolfes added nine and Rieder and
Katie Hamill finished with seven points each.
Morgan Ramthun had 10 rebounds and
Emerson Weller finished with nine rebounds.

UPR-Mayaguez was held to 24 percent (12-for-50) shooting in the contest including 1-of-13 from three and only 38 percent at the foul line. Gonzalez was the Tarzans leading scorer with six points while Andrea Mendez Colon and Sofia Alvarez had four points apiece.

The Tritons play their final game in Puerto Rico on Monday afternoon against Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico at 2 p.m. (CST) at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
