Enright Drops 30, But Tritons Fall 81-61

ST. LOUIS – Matt Enright scored a career-high 30 points but it wouldn't be enough as the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team fell to Lewis 81-61 on Saturday afternoon on Chuck Smith Court at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons drop to 3-6, 3-1 GLVC while the Flyers improve to 5-3, 2-1 GLVC.

The two sides went back-and-forth early and were tied at five less than four minutes into the game after a layup from KC Udolisa.

Lewis entered the game shooting just 33 percent from the three-point line but hit its first four attempts from beyond the arc including two from Paxton Warden to take a six-point lead.

Savon Wykle hit a jumper with 12:24 left in the opening half but the Flyers controlled play for the next five minutes going on an 11-1 run to extend its lead to 27-13 after a layup from Ryan Renfro.

Enright got hot hitting four straight field goals including three threes to pull the Tritons within 35-28 with 2:55 left in the half. Enright accounted for 11 points while Udolisa and Wykle each added two points.

Lewis stretched its lead back to 11 but Enright's fourth trey of the half brought UMSL within 39-31 at the half.

The Tritons still trailed by eight a minute into the second half before the Flyers pulled away thanks to a 20-8 run over a stretch of nine minutes. Rob Stroud led Lewis with six points in that run while Warden added five and Cem Kiriciman had three.

UMSL wouldn't get closer than 20 points the rest of the contest as the Flyers hot 67 percent from the floor in the second half and led by as many as 26 points.

The Tritons finished the game shooting 42 percent (19-for-45) from the field including 9-of-22 from three and 88 percent at the foul line but was outscored by Lewis 48-to-16 in the paint and 17-to-6 in points off turnovers.

Enright led all scorers with 30 points, 16 in the second half, on 9-of-12 shooting and was 6-for-8 from three. Udolisa finished with 11 points.

The Flyers shot 64 percent (33-for-52) from the floor in the contest including 6-of-9 from three and shot 75 percent at the foul line. Stroud led four Lewis players in double figures with 20 points. Renfro added 17 points, Warden dropped home 14 points and Devon Vanderheydt finished with 12 points.

UMSL takes a break for finals next week before returning to the court on Tuesday (Dec. 17) against Pittsburg State in the River City Holiday Classic at the Northeast ISD Sports Gym in San Antonio, Texas at 3 p.m.
