ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team dropped its match against Illinois State 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill. The Tritons drop to 2-3 while the Redbirds improve to 6-5.
ISU won all three doubles matches to take the first point of the contest. UMSL's number one doubles team of
Juan Vigil and
Raphael Kerndl lost to Tin Ostro and Emiliano Gonzalez 6-1.
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey dropped a 6-1 decision to Tom Bevan and Arvid Hjalte at number two doubles and
Tanin Ramnath and
Marcos Navas were defeated by Caden Scarlett and Tomas Valencia 7-5 in the final doubles match.
In singles competition, Mayorga lost to Nam Pham 6-0, 6-2 at number one singles, Vigil fell to Hjalte 6-2, 6-1 and Kerndl was beaten by Adrian Dibildox 6-3, 6-3 in the third singles contest. Mackey came up short against Gonzalez 6-3, 6-3, Ramnath lost to Ostro 6-1, 6-0 and Navas fell to Valencia 6-1, 6-2 in the final singles match.
The Tritons are back at home on Sunday afternoon taking on Purdue Northwest at noon at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
