ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a sweep at William Jewell on Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Field in Liberty, Mo. The Tritons took the opener 4-0 and the nightcap 14-5.
UMSL improves to 15-11, 2-0 GLVC while the Cardinals drop to 16-10, 0-2 GLVC. The wins snapped William Jewell's 11-game home winning streak.
Game 1 – UMSL 4 WJC 0
The Tritons scored all the runs they needed in the second inning. UMSL loaded the bases with no one out on three singles.

Gwyn Miller with the first run as she was hit by a pitch.
Rylie Buchanan scored the second run as
Maddie Snemis reached on an error by the shortstop.
McKenzie Lamos drove in the third run of the frame reaching on a fielder's choice as Pasqualini scored.
UMSL's final run of the contest came in the third as Pasqualini brought home Miller with a two-out double down the left field line.
Ashley Borowitz shut down the high-flying Cardinal attack limiting them to just three hits while striking out four and walking three to pick up the complete game shutout and improve to 8-7 on the season.
The Tritons had 10 hits in the contest and were led by the bottom of the order as Miller, Buchanan, Pasqualini and
Megan Russell combined to go 7-12 with four runs scored and two RBI.
Game 2 – UMSL 14 WJC 5
UMSL scored in every inning but the sixth in the nightcap and never trailed in the contest.
Courtney Settles drove in Travis with the first run of the contest with a single up the middle with one out in the first.
The Tritons added four in the second highlighted by Lamos' bases clearing triple to right center.
Jamie Widule brought home Lamos with a single to center for the final run of the frame.
The Cardinals got a solo home run from Alexa Almejo and a two-run home run from Tori Woodard in the bottom of the frame to cut UMSL's lead to 5-3.
The Tritons added single runs in the third and fourth and two more in the fifh to extend their lead to 9-3. William Jewell got a run back in its half of the sixth to make it a five-run game heading into the final frame.
UMSL broke it open in the seventh scoring five times on six hits highlighted by Buchanan's grand slam to center to make it 14-4.
The Cardinals final run came in the last of the seventh as Amanda Chung doubled home Addie Bell.
UMSL had 17 hits in the nightcap and was led by Travis, Lamos and Russell with three apiece while Widule, Miller and Buchanan had two hits each.
Katie Schaake got the start in the circle giving up three runs on three hits with four walks in 3.1 innings pitched.
Lexi Sherrick pitched the final 3.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits while walking three to pick up the win and improve to 3-4 on the season.
The Tritons continue their road trip on Sunday taking on Rockhurst in a doubleheader starting at noon at Loyola Softball Park in Kansas City.
