ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped the series finale of its four-game series against No. 21 Maryville 10-9 on Saturday afternoon at Weber Field in St. Louis. The Tritons drop to 16-13, 8-8 GLVC while the Saints move to 21-7, 14-2 GLVC.
UMSL jumped out to an early lead with single tallies in the first and second inning.
Bryce Kulinski hit a sacrifice fly to right in the first to bring home
Dane Stevenson with the first run of the game.
Mitchell Green hit a solo home run to left in the second for his third home run in as many games.
Maryville capitalized on a Triton error in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead on Colin Bergmann's three-run home run to right center.
UMSL came right back scoring three times in the third to retake the lead. Kulinski drove in his second run of the contest reaching on a fielder's choice to second.
Braedon Stoakes put the Tritons back on top with a straight steal of home.
Logan Mantz drew a walk with the bases loaded to drive in the third run of the frame.
The Saints got a run back in the fourth on Jack Zebig's RBI single to center.
UMSL extended its lead to 7-4 in the fifth on
Andrew Buescher's two-run home run to center.
Maryville cut the margin to 7-5 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to center.
The Tritons regained their three-run lead in the seventh as
Garrett Strenger hit a squeeze bunt to bring home Kulinski.
The Saints made it a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh with a double down the left field line and a double to left.
Kulinski drove his third run of the game with a single up the middle scoring Stoakes.
Maryville made it a one-run game again in the eighth with an RBI double.
The Saints won it in the ninth with a two-out rally. A walk and a single put the tying and go-ahead runs on base for Zebig. Zebig tied the game with a single to right and then Michael Gould singled through the left side of the infield scoring Andy Bunton with the winning run.
UMSL finished with 12 hits in the contest and was led by Kulinski with three while Stevenson and Stoakes added two each.
Brady Krile took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season.
The Tritons return home next weekend hosting William Jewell in a four-game series starting Friday with a single game at 2 p.m. at the UMSL Baseball Field.
