ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team snapped its six-game losing streak with an 8-5 win over Maryville in game two of its doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the Maryville Athletic Complex. The Saints took the opener 5-4. UMSL is now 18-22, 5-9 GLVC while the Saints are 18-21, 10-6 GLVC.

The Tritons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two.
Irene Travis drove in
May Pasqualini with the first run on a ground out to second.
Megan Russell hit an RBI single to third that brought home
Courtney Settles and
Simia Spahiev hit a double to center scoring Russell.
UMSL extended its lead with three more in the second highlighted by RBI doubles from Travis and
McKenzie Lamos.
Maryville cut the Triton lead in half with three in the third and added another in the fifth to make it 6-4.
UMSL responded with two in the sixth on another two-run double from Lamos to extend the lead to 8-4.
The Saints brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh as they loaded the bases with no out but only got one run as Jenna Josnoff reached on a fielder's choice scoring Taylor Duff.
Lexi Sherrick got Mandi Lenon to pop out to short to end the game.
The Tritons had 13 hits in the contest and were led by Lamos with three while Settles, Travis and
Katie Schaake had two apiece. Sherrick went the distance allowing five runs, two earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts to improve to 5-6 on the season.
Game 1 – Maryville 5 UMSL 4
The opening game was scoreless until the fourth when Maryville scored all five of its runs on three hits and two errors.
UMSL's first run came in the fifth. With two out, Schaake tripled to right center and scored on Pasqualini's single to short. The Tritons added two more in the sixth as Lamos scored on an error by the first baseman and Spahiev brought home Russell with a groundout back to the pitcher.
UMSL made it a one-run game in the seventh on Russell's two-out single to short scoring Settles. The Tritons had a chance to take the lead as they loaded the bases but a foul out to first ended the contest.
UMSL had 10 hits in the opening game and were led by Pasqualini, Lamos and Russell with two apiece.
Ashley Borowitz took the loss giving up five runs, all unearned, on seven hits and three strikeouts to drop to 9-12 on the year.
The Tritons return home on Saturday (April 13) hosting Upper Iowa in a doubleheader starting at noon at the UMSL Softball Field.
