ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team shut out Illinois Springfield 2-0 at Don Dallas Field on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons even their record at 3-3-5, 2-2-4 GLVC while the Prairie Stars drop to 2-7-3, 1-6-2 GLVC.
Jack Franklin made two saves in the first 10 minutes of the contest keeping UIS off the scoreboard.
UMSL had several chances to score and capitalized on one of them in the 29th minute. After winning a corner kick,
Kyler Sorber served the kick across the box to
Colton Milosch on the back post. Milosch headed it towards goal and
Roman Ryabchenko ran through a crowd, got on the end of it and put it in the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
The Tritons had another opportunity less than 30 seconds later as
Melo Mensah was in alone on goal but couldn't chip it over the keeper.
UMSL held a 13-4 advantage in shots including 5-2 in shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
The Prairie Stars came out the aggressors to start the second half looking for the equalizer. Their best chance came in the 68th minute as Robin Lemke Bergseth was alone in the center of the box but hit his shot right at Franklin who made the save to keep it a 1-0 contest.
The Tritons added an insurance goal 86 seconds later.
Mario Garcia won the ball in the corner, spun away from the defender and sent a pass across the goal mouth. Milosch got on the other end of it and scored into an open net for his second goal of the season.
UMSL finished the game outshooting UIS 20-12 including 8-6 in shots on goal. Franklin made six saves to secure his third shutout of the season.
The Tritons are back in action this Friday (Oct. 17) traveling to Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds of UIndy at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) at Key Stadium.
