ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Playing in very windy conditions the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought contest against Lewis 1-0 at Lewis Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Romeoville, Ill. The Tritons fall back to .500 at 4-4-5, 3-3-4 GLVC while the Flyers improve to 4-4-6, 3-4-3 GLVC.
UMSL played with the wind in the first half and had the only two shots in the frame.
Gibson Hunt had a shot blocked in the 10th minute and later in the half
Michael Quinn tried to beat Jeremiah Higgins to the lower left corner but Higgins got over to make the save.
Lewis had two chances in the first five-plus minutes of the second half. Hampus Ryno nearly scored off a corner kick but
Jack Franklin made the save. A little over three minutes later Jael Chavez played the ball ahead to Mario Ramirez. Ramirez found Hubert Grele making a run on the opposite side of the field and passed it to him. Grele took a shot near the top of the box that beat Franklin to the lower left corner for his first foal of the season
The Tritons only shot in the second half came in the 67th minute as
Roman Ryabchenko missed a shot. UMSL had one more chance in the final 10 minutes as it had a throw-in deep in Flyer territory. The long throw was sent into a scrum in the middle of the 18-yard box the ball was knocked around but sent wide of the left post.
The Tritons outshot Lewis 3-2 in the contest but both of Lewis' shots were on target. Hunt, Quinn and Ryabchenko had one shot apiece. Franklin made one save in goal.
UMSL returns home this Friday (Oct. 24) hosting Upper Iowa at 3 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
