ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball had a milestone setting evening in its 3-1 win over Missouri S&T at the Mark Twain Building on Friday evening. The Tritons run their win streak to 10 and improve to 17-4 overall and 7-0 in the GLVC while the Miners fall to 5-15, 0-6 GLVC.
With her 50 assists in the match, senior setter
Caitlin Bishop surpassed 5,000 career assists and became the second player in school history to surpass that mark. The victory also marked the 300th career win for head coach
Ryan Young.
UMSL used a 14-5 run in the first set to overcome a 5-3 deficit to take a 17-10 lead as
Iyannah Jackson and
Maggie Johnson had three kills apiece in the run and
Alayna Santel and
Bridget Cassady added two more each.
The Tritons extended their lead to 23-12 after an ace from
Rylee Edson and would go onto win the opener 25-14.
UMSL hit .467 in the stanza and was led by Johnson with seven kills.
The second frame was all S&T as it hit .500 while holding the Tritons to a .171 hitting percentage. The Miners led by as many as 13 in the set on their way to the 25-14 victory.
UMSL responded in the swing set jumping out to a 6-1 lead but S&T rallied to take a 12-11 lead after a kill from Addie Schoenberger
. It would be their last lead of the set as the Tritons scored 12 of the next 13 points to build a 10-point lead.
Lydia Hartman had a service run of eight straight points in the stanza.
UMSL took the frame 25-16 to seize a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Tritons jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the finale and wouldn't see its lead slip below two the rest of the way as they led by as many as nine at 24-15 after a kill from Johnson. The Miners fought off two match points but not a third as Johnson terminated a ball for her career-high 21
st kill of the contest.
UMSL hit .348 for the contest with 63 kills against 17 errors in 132 chances. Joining Johnson in double figures were Santel with 15 kills while Jackson added 13 kills. Bishop had seven digs to go along with her assist total; Jackson had three blocks and
Skylar Weaver finished with 28 digs.
S&T hit .259 in the contest with 48 kills against 12 errors in 139 attempts. Lexi Kosmopolis led the Miners with 17 kills and 10 digs; Elise Mahaffey had 20 assists and Avery Patton added five blocks.
The Tritons wrap up their brief homestand on Saturday hosting Maryville at 3 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
