KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team beat Truman 2-0 at Stokes Stadium on Friday afternoon in Kirksville, Mo. With the win, the Tritons improve to 11-3-2, 10-1-2 GLVC while the Bulldogs drop to 5-5-5, 5-4-4 GLVC.
With the win, UMSL is guaranteed to finish either first or second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings and is guaranteed to host a first round GLVC Tournament game on Sunday (Nov. 9) against an opponent to be determined.
Julie Steiger opened the scoring for the Tritons in the 14
th minute, beating Truman's keeper to the near post, putting UMSL in front 1-0.
Josie Maddox doubled the lead with her team leading sixth goal of the season in the 18
th minute. A ball from
Maddie Clark found Maddox on the right wing and Maddox took her space, finishing with a shot to the lower right.
Rylee Griffith faced two shots on target on her way to her eighth shutout of the season. She came up huge in the 77
th minute, parrying away a high shot by Aubrey Kaupas that seemed destined for the upper left corner.
The Tritons outshot Truman 20-4, with ten of UMSL's shots on frame. Maddox led the Tritons with six shots, four on goal.
UMSL wraps up the regular season this Sunday (Nov. 2) against William Jewell at 12 p.m. at the William Jewell Soccer/Lacrosse Field.
