WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in its 78-57 upset win over No. 13 Michigan Tech for its first win of the season on Friday afternoon at the JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The Tritons improve to 1-2 while the Huskies fall to 2-1.
The game started slowly with each side struggling to hit shots with only one combined field goal in the first four minutes of play. UMSL scored the first four points of the contest and wouldn't allow MTU to get closer than one point the rest of the game.
The Tritons got hot from the field over the final 15 minutes of the half shooting 55 percent (16-for-29) from the field and led by as many as 19 points at the break.
UMSL stretched its lead to as many as 23 points in the second half on a layup from
Jayden Creighton and wouldn't let the Huskies get closer than 16 points the remainder of the game.
The Tritons had three players reach double figures in scoring led by
Taye Moore with a career-high 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting including 3-of-6 from three while
Jake Hamilton added 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals and
Vincent Davis III finished with 12 points and was tied with
Quenton Parker for the game-high in rebounds with eight.
UMSL finished the game shooting 53 percent (28-for-53) from the field including 5-of-13 from three and shot 68 percent at the foul line. It outrebounded Michigan Tech 37-to-18 and recorded 13 steals in the win.
The Huskies were held to 42 percent (21-for-50) shooting in the contest, were 8-of-22 from three and shot 47 percent at the foul line. Marcus Tomashek led Tech with 15 points.
The Tritons look to even their record on Saturday afternoon against Northern Michigan at 3 p.m. at the JustAGame Fieldhouse.
