Four Tritons Reach Double Figures In Win Over Northern Michigan

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team had four players reach double figures in scoring in its 80-67 win over Northern Michigan on Saturday afternoon at the Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The Tritons improve to 2-2 while the Wildcats drop to 1-1.

UMSL fell behind 5-2 to start the contest but that would be the only time it trailed as it went on a 12-3 run to grab a six-point lead five minutes into the contest. Makeer Makeer and Jayden Creighton combined for nine points in that run.

NMU cut the deficit to 18-13 but the Tritons countered with seven in a row to extend its lead to double digits highlighted by back-to-back three's from Quenton Parker and Makeer.

The Wildcats cut the deficit to single digits thanks to a quick five points but wouldn't get any closer as UMSL finished the half on a 17-10 run to take a 14-point lead into the locker room at the break.

Taye Moore and Jake Hamilton had nine points each in the half while Makeer added eight off the bench and Creighton had six.

The Tritons made 58 percent (14-of-24) of their shots in the half including 4-of-7 from three and shot 77 percent at the foul line.

UMSL stretched its lead to as many as 21 points seven minutes into the second half on a layup from Moore.

NMU cut the margin to 10 with less than seven minutes but wouldn't get any closer as the Tritons outscored them 20-17 the rest of the way to secure the victory.

UMSL finished the game shooting 55 percent (24-for-44) from the field including 7-of-15 from downtown and shot 68 percent at the foul line. It outrebounded the Wildcats 36-to-27. Moore led all scorers with 22 points while Makeer finished with 20 points. Hamilton and Creighton added 12 points each. Hamilton added eight rebounds and Miles Boland had five assists.

The Wildcats shot 41 percent (24-for-58) from the field but were 3-of-23 from three and shot 70 percent at the foul line. Dylan Kuehl had 19 points to lead NMU.

The Tritons return home for their home opener next Friday (Nov. 21) hosting University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at 6 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
