LEBANON, Ill. -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Ashland 1-0 in the second round of the NCAA tournament at McKendree's Leemon Field on Sunday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill. The Tritons improve to 14-4-2 while the Eagles end their season with a record of 14-3-5.

Maddie Clark broke the deadlock. In the 14
th minute,
Josie Maddox slotted a ball across the face of the goal that Clark sent spinning back in and past Ashland goalkeeper Jaya Daniel to put UMSL ahead
The Tritons had a pair of chances late in the second half but couldn't find a way to get the ball past Daniel a second time.
Rylee Griffith made three saves to complete her second clean sheet of the NCAA tournament and her 10th of the season. She came up big in the 80
th minute at the near post, stopping a tough angle shot by Keira Erling to preserve the 1-0 lead.
UMSL outshot Ashland 10-5 with seven of the Tritons' shots being on frame.
Ella Anselm and
Rachel Skyberg led the Tritons with three shots apiece.
UMSL advances to the Midwest Region final next Sunday (Nov. 30) against crosstown rival Maryville at 1 p.m. at Lonnie Folks Field.
