ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team had six players named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team that was announced on Tuesday (Nov. 25).
Karley Kinzinger,
Josie Maddox,
Gwen Maggard,
Taylor Martin,
Julie Steiger and
Aubree Wallace were all named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
To be eligible for nomination to the CSC Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, must have competed in 90 percent for the institution's games played OR must have started in at least 66 percent of the games throughout the season.
Kinzinger, a second-team All-GLVC selection, has started all 20 games this season for UMSL tallying a goal and two assists for a total of four points. She scored the game-winning goal in the 3-0 win at UIndy on Oct. 17 and along with Martin and Steiger have been part of a backline that has posted 12 shutouts this season. Kinzinger is majoring in liberal studies and has a cumulative GPA of 3.54.
Maddox, a second team All-GLVC selection, leads the Tritons in goals scored this season with six and is tied for second on the team with 15 points. She is fifth in the GLVC in shots on goal with an average of 1.65 per contest and sixth in shots with 2.95 per outing. Maddox was named the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 20. Maddox is an exercise science major with a cumulative GPA of 4.00.
Maggard, a second team All-GLVC pick, leads the team in scoring with 16 points and assists (6) and is second on the squad with five goals scored and has tallied two-game winning goals. She scored the game-winners against Quincy on Oct. 26 and at William Jewell in the regular season finale on Nov. 2. Her major is nursing and she has a 3.85 cumulative GPA.
Martin, the GLVC's Defensive Player of the Year and a first team All-GLVC honoree, has been a stalwart for the Triton defense having been part of a defensive unit with Kinzinger and Steiger that has posted 12 shutouts including a stretch of five in games. She has tallied one goal and four assists for a total of eight points this season. Her major is business administration and she has a 3.87 cumulative GPA.
Steiger, a first team All-GLVC selection, has scored one goal from her center back position and added two assists for a total of four points. She netted the game-winner at Truman State on the final weekend of the regular season. Along with Kinzinger and Martin on the backline they've limited opposing teams to 0.50 goals per contest and an average of 8.0 shots per game. She is majoring in mechanical engineering with a 3.77 cumulative GPA.
Wallace helped anchor the Triton midfield this season with her one goal and three assists for a total of five points. She scored the game-winning goal against Upper Iowa on Oct. 24 and she played a key role in breaking up a 3-on-1 break to preserve a 1-0 lead in UMSL's 3-0 win at McKendree on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Her major is physical education (K-12) and has a cumulative GPA of 3.98.
The Tritons return to the pitch this Sunday (Nov. 30) taking on crosstown rival Maryville in the Midwest Regional Final at 1 p.m. on Lonnie Folks Field on the campus of Maryville University.
