ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming teams swept its dual meet against Truman State at Pershing Natatorium on Saturday in Kirksville, Mo. The Triton men defeated the Bulldogs 197-52 and the women were victorious 174-85.
The men won all 14 events in their dual and were led by
Mikael Larsson who won the 200 and 500 freestyle races and the 400 individually medley with times of 1:42.01, 4:39.74 and 4:12.35 respectively.
Kaleb Suitor won both the 100 backstroke and 100 fly in times of 51.54 and 49.77 seconds.
Aaron Wicklund took top honors in the 100 breast at 57.88 seconds and in the 100 free with a time of 47.41 seconds.
Also, reaching the top of the podium were
Mattia Nardi in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.86,
Lathan Parks won the 50 free at 21.39 seconds,
Maxwell Wetteland was the top finisher in the 200 back in a time of 1:54.62 out touching Truman's Jacob Wolf by .06 of a second.
Dylan Bonnett won the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.14 and
Carson Ring was the winner in the 1650 free at 17:08.34.
UMSL's 200-yard medley relay squad of
Gabriel Wells, Nardi, Suitor and
Gentry Comstock won with a time of 1:33.93 and the 200 free relay quartet of Parks,
Joan Cortadellas Llubera, Wells and Wetteland had a time of 1:23.96.
The women took 11 of the 14 events contested in the dual and were led by
Justice Beard who won the 1650 free at 16:43.73, the 200 fly in a time of 2:09.29 and the 500 free at 5:03.53.
Romina Itzkovich claimed the top spot in the 100 free touching the wall at 53.47 seconds and the 100 back at 58.22 seconds.
Also posting event wins were
Aeri La in the 200 free (1:59.96),
Uxue Ortiz de Pinedo in the 200 breast (2:19.57),
Audrey Lantz won the 100 fly (59.97 seconds) and
Stella Garrison was first in the 400 IM (4:43.26).
The 200 medley relay foursome of
Ella Lantz, Garrison, Itzkovich and A. Lantz won the event with a time of 1:45.59 and the 200 free relay quartet of Itzkovich,
Madison Bottorff, Beard and A. Lantz won in a time of 1:37.08.
The Tritons return to the pool for the University of Phoenix Fall Classic (Nov. 21-23) at the Ratner Athletic Center in Chicago, Ill. Preliminary races will be held in the morning starting at 10 a.m. each day with the finals starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
