Men’s Hoops Bounces Back With 69-52 Win At Maryville

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team wrapped up its three-game road trip with a 69-52 win over Maryville on Tuesday evening at Moloney Arena on the campus of Maryville University. The Tritons improve to 6-4, 2-2 GLVC while the Saints drop to 1-7, 0-3 GLVC.

UMSL never trailed in the contest as it got off to an early six-point lead. Maryville cut the margin to 13-12 near the midway point of the opening half but the Tritons countered with seven straight points including five from Vincent Davis III to take a 20-12 lead 2:30 minutes later.

That lead grew to 30-19 after two free throws from Taye Moore with 3:24 left in the frame but the Saints ended the half on an 8-0 run to cut UMSL's lead to 30-27 at the break.

The first half was a scoring battle between Davis and Kobe Clark as Davis had 10 points in the stanza while Clark led all scorers with 11.

Maryville extended its run to 10 straight with a basket on its first possession of the second half to draw within 30-29 but UMSL pulled away thanks to a 9-4 run over the next four minutes to build a six-point lead after a free throw from Moore.

The Triton lead grew to 17 on a three-pointer from Jake Hamilton with less than eight minutes to play but the Saints wouldn't go away willingly scoring seven straight over the next 3:16 to pull within 10 on a free throw from Clark.

UMSL had one more run in them putting the game away with an 11-2 run over the next three minutes to build its largest lead of the night at 68-50 on a basket from Blessed Barhayiga with less than a minute to play.

The Tritons shot 52 percent from the floor in the second half to finish the game shooting 49 percent (23-for-47) from the field including 4-of-17 from three and shot 73 percent (19-for-26) at the foul line. They outrebounded Maryville 33-to-28 and forced 18 turnovers resulting in 26 points.

Davis led all scorers with 18 points while Hamilton and Barhayiga chipped in with 13 and 10 points respectively. Moore was a point and rebound shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Miles Boland had five assists to go along with four steals.

The Saints finished the game shooting 38 percent (20-for-53) from the field including 3-of-16 from three and shot 82 percent at the foul line. Clark led Maryville with 13 points but had only two in the second half. Raynard Horry finished with nine points.

UMSL returns home this Saturday (December 13) hosting Parkside at 3 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
