Tritons Come Up Short At UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball ran out of time in its 69-64 loss to UIndy at Nicoson Hall on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Tritons drop to 5-4, 1-2 GLVC while the Greyhounds move to 5-3, 3-0 GLVC.

UMSL jumped out to an early four-point lead but couldn't sustain as UIndy got hot from downtown making three consecutive threes in its 11-0 run to build a double digit lead. The Tritons cut the deficit to two after a layup by Vincent Davis III at the 7:41 mark of the opening half but couldn't get over the hump as the Hounds scored five of the next six points to extend their lead to 28-22.

UMSL used an 8-3 run to cut the deficit to 31-30 on a layup from Davis with 1:45 to play in the half but once again couldn't retake the lead. UIndy got a jumper from Carmelo Harris at the buzzer to take a 33-30 lead into the intermission at halftime.

The Greyhounds opened the second half on a 7-2 run to extend its lead to eight on a fastbreak layup from Shaun Arnold. UIndy's lead grew to as many as 12 at 50-38 after a dunk from Kelvin Amoako with 11:52 left in the game.

The Tritons cut the lead in half on a layup from Miles Boland with 5:20 remaining but the Hounds had another run in them stretching the lead back to 12. UMSL made things interesting in the final minute thanks to a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 67-64 but two free throws from Harris with 0:04 left sealed the victory.

The Tritons were held to 38 percent (20-for-53) shooting in the contest including 4-of-20 from three but did shoot 87 percent at the foul line. Jake Hamilton led UMSL with 17 points while Boland chipped in with 15 points. Blessed Barhayiga finished with five rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot in the contest.

UIndy finished the game shooting 47 percent (24-for-51) from the floor, was 6-of-19 from three and shot 79 percent at the foul line. Harris led all scorers with 25 points while Arnold added 14 more points.

The Tritons wrapup their three-game road swing with a visit to crosstown rival Maryville on Tuesday (Dec. 9) at 7:30 p.m. at Moloney Arena.
