ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in its 85-62 win over Quincy on Thursday evening on Chuck Smith Court at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons improve to 13-10, 11-5 GLVC while the Hawks fall to 8-15, 3-12 GLVC.
Matt Enright became the 18th player in school history to score 1,000 points in his career with his 11 in the first half.
UMSL started quick scoring the first nine points of the contest but Quincy rallied to pull within two. That would be the closest it got the rest of the contest as the Tritons countered with a 15-4 run over the span of 5:30 minutes to take a 24-11 lead on a dunk from
Savon Wykle.
The Hawks hung around thanks to a 12-5 run to pull within six but UMSL finished the half strong outscoring Quincy 12-2 over the final 5:30 of the frame to take a 41-25 lead into the break.
Wykle led all scorers with his 16 points in the stanza while Enright chipped in with his 11.
UMSL opened the second half on a 27-4 run to build its largest lead of the night on a three-pointer from
Quenton Parker at the 13:05 mark.
The Hawks cut into the deficit drawing to within 23 with a jumper from Mason Wujek with 0:22 to play.
The Tritons had three players reach double figures in scoring led by Enright with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting including 7-for-10 from three. Wykle finished with 16 points and
Troy Glover II had 12 points. All eight players from UMSL scored in the contest.
The Tritons shot 58 percent (34-for-59) from the field, including 14-of-26 from three and shot 50 percent at the foul line. They had 21 assists on 34 made buckets and forced 16 turnovers.
Quincy finished the game shooting 41 percent (25-for-61) from the field, was 7-of-25 from three and shot 50 percent at the foul line. It outrebounded UMSL 35-to-30 for the game. Jake Hamilton led the Hawks with 16 points while Max Booher added 12 more.
The Tritons are back in action on Saturday hosting Upper Iowa at 3 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building. The Peacocks defeated Maryville 82-73 on Thursday evening.
