KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team's fourth quarter comeback attempt came up short as it fell to Truman 67-59 at Pershing Arena on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Tritons to 19-7, 13-6 GLVC while the Bulldogs improve to 13-15, 10-8 GLVC.

Katie Hamill had six points in the first quarter, including the first four to start the game for UMSL. All five starters managed to get on the board against Truman, but Truman's three-point shooting allowed them to erase an early five-point deficit.

Abby Peterson scored a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Truman lead to one point going into the second quarter. UMSL outrebounded the Bulldogs eight to two, including five offensive rebounds, but couldn't find the basket consistently in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs started the second quarter with an 8-3 run to extend its lead to eight.
Kate Rolfes hit a three during that run for the Tritons to keep them within striking distance.

Alex Wolff came to life at the end of the second quarter, giving the Tritons their last four points of the quarter to bring UMSL within four with less than three minutes to play in the half. Truman scored the final five points of the half to take a nine-point advantage into the locker room.

The Bulldogs hot shooting continued at the start of the third quarter as a layup by Katelyn Odem and a three from Emma Bulman extended their led to 12 points.
Audrey Martinez-Stewart scored the Tritons first four points of the quarter.

UMSL still trailed by 12 before going on an 11-3 run over a stretch of 3:21 to cut the lead to four as
Anna Costa Riera scored off a steal. Truman scored the final four points of the stanza to take an eight-point lead into the final quarter.

The Bulldogs scored the first five points of the period to take its largest lead of the game at 56-43. The Tritons chipped away over the next 3:24 thanks to a 13-1 run highlighted by two threes from Rolfes and a three-point play from
Morgan Ramthun.

UMSL had a chance to retake the lead but a turnover gave the ball back to Truman. A foul on
Mara Rieder sent Molly Joyce to the line and she hit 1-of-2 to make it a two-point. After another free throw gave the Bulldogs a 59-56 lead, Rolfes hit a layup in the paint to make it a one-point game again.

Truman answered on the other end as Kaitlyn Patke got open around the basket and laid it in with 1:38 left.
The Tritons had another chance but Rolfes stepped out of bounds as she attempted to drive to the basket.

UMSL needed a stop but Bryar Duwe hit a three from the top of the key with less than a minute to play to extend the lead to six. The Tritons wouldn't get closer than eight the rest of the way as Truman hit 3-of-4 foul shots to seal the win.

The Tritons shot 36.5 percent (23-for-63) from the field in the contest, were 6-of-16 from three and shot 64 percent at the foul line. Rolfes was the lone UMSL player to reach double figures in scoring with 17 points. Ramthun and Rieder added nine points each.

The Bulldogs were 23-for-41 (56 percent) from the floor in the game including 10-of-18 from three and shot 61 percent at the foul line. Jordan Cunningham led all scorers with 19 points while Duwe added 17 points.

The Tritons wrap up the regular season next Thursday (Feb. 27) hosting Drury at 5:30 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
