HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team concluded its four-game series against Alabama-Huntsville at Charger Park on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons dropped the first game 9-5 and the nightcap 7-4. UMSL is now 3-4 on the season while the Chargers improve to 5-3.
Game 1 – UAH 9 UMSL 5
UAH jumped out to the early lead scoring two in the first, adding three more in the third and one more in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead into the fifth.
The Tritons chipped away with four runs in the fifth.
Luke Stevenson got UMSL on the board with a two-run home run to left center scoring
Owen Polly.
Luke Saxton scored on a wild pitch for the third run of the frame and
Noah Tomaras brought home
Barrett Rose with a single to left.
The Chargers countered with two in the sixth and one more in the seventh.
Ayden Cline hit a pinch-hit solo home run to center with two out in the ninth for the final tally.
UMSL had 10 hits in the contest and was led by Polly with two.
Dustin Hagens got the start on the mound giving up six runs, three earned, on five hits with five strikeouts but walked four in four innings pitched to fall to 0-1 on the year.
Game 2 – UAH 7 UMSL 4
The Tritons gave up two runs in each of the first two innings in the nightcap. UMSL got on the board in the third as Stevenson drove in
Cade Grevengoed with a single to left for his third RBI of the day.
UAH got that run back in its half of the third on Ian Reagan's double to left center scoring Taylor Bush.
The Tritons got an RBI double from
Mitch Bonczkowski in the fourth scoring Rose but the Chargers answered with two more in the bottom of the frame.
UMSL got RBI doubles from Rose in the fifth and seventh innings for its final two runs of the game.
The Tritons outhit UAH 8-4 in the nightcap and were led by Rose with three while
Cooper Blythe added two more.
Garrett Brunstetter took the loss giving up seven runs, five earned, on three hits but walked six and struck out five in three innings of work to fall to 0-1 on the year.
UMSL returns to the diamond on Tuesday (Feb. 18) as it travels to St. Joseph, Mo., to take on Missouri Western in a single game starting at 2 p.m.
