ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team returned to the diamond for the first time in nearly three weeks splitting its doubleheader with Northwood at Plummer Family Park in Edwardsville, Ill., on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons took the nightcap 7-3 while the Timberwolves won the opener 3-0. UMSL is 5-6 while Northwood is 2-2.

The Tritons sent 10 batters to the plate in the home half of the first scoring five runs on six hits.

Julia Sandles and
Megan Russell all had RBIs in the inning.
The Timberwolves got two unearned runs in the second and another unearned run in the third to cut UMSL's lead to 5-3 after two and a half innings.
The Tritons extended their lead in the bottom of the third. Sandles led off the inning with a walk then stole second and third. She scored on Russell's ground out to second.
UMSL's final run came in the sixth as it loaded the bases with one out. Pasqualini drove in
Courtney Settles with a fielder's choice to third as
Jamie Widule was retired on a force out.
Ashley Ware worked around a single and an error in the seventh to seal the victory.
The Tritons had 11 hits in the nightcap and were led by Widlue, Spahiev and Pasqualini with two apiece. Pasqualini and Russell each drove in two runs. Ware picked up her first collegiate win tossing a complete game allowing three runs, none earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts against a walk.

The first game of the day was a pitcher's duel between Brynn Polega and
Ashley Borowitz as each pitcher went the distance allowing three hits apiece.
Northwood jumped on top with a run in the first. Their first two hitters reached but Borowitz retired the next two and was one pitch away from getting out of the inning but Ashley Ziel and Ashlyn Lundquist pulled off a double steal for the game's first run.
UMSL was held hitless through the first three innings before picking up its first hit as Settles led off the fourth inning with a single up the middle but the Tritons couldn't bring her around.
Borowitz settled down retiring 13 straight hitters heading into to the seventh to keep her team in the game.
The Tritons best chance came in the fifth as they loaded the bases with two out but Settles was robbed of a base hit as Gabby Schloop went into the hole between third and short to throw out Settles to end the inning.
The Timberwolves extended their lead on a two-run double down the left field line off the bat of Gage Lambert.

Gwyn Miller each had a hit in the contest. Borowitz took the loss giving up three runs on three hits while walking four and striking out four to drop to 3-2 on the season.
UMSL returns to the diamond on Sunday afternoon hosting Kentucky Wesleyan in a doubleheader at Plummer Family Park in Edwardsville, Ill., starting at noon.
